On June 15, the European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) interviewed Caterina Ferrario, a young farmer and owner of Molare’s farm. Molare’s is a model of multifunctional farm, based on-farm processing, direct-selling and agritourism and therefore chosen as a case study for the project.
Located in Cremolino, in the beautiful hills of Alto Monferrato, in the Italian region of Piedmont, the farm is defined as ‘birrificio agricolo’ (“agricultural brewery”), as it grows barley, then processed into beers. Caterina, with the help of her family and 8 employees, produces wine from three hectares of local varieties of vineyards, takes care of beehives, produces honey and organizes dinners, tastings and events in the agritourism.
She tells the totality of her products through direct selling either on-farm or on local markets. In her view, doing on-farm processing and direct selling requires passion for agriculture, courage to step up to challenges and a strong attachment to the territory.
