The first result of ONFARM is a white paper: an authoritative document presenting the situation of short food supply chains in the six countries covered by the consortium and in Europe. The document will inform the public about the national legislation and current challenges and needs to support on-farm processing and farm-to-fork strategies in Europe. Developed by Verein fuer Landliche Struktuforschung from Germany (Ifls), the white paper will soon be released!
Looking for a spoiler? The chapter about the European situation highlighted the need to incentivize social and digital innovation, support the collaboration of farmers with other food chain actors and direct public intervention to small farms and young farmers. It is based on three expert interviews: Jeroen Candel, Associate Professor at Wageningen University and Research, Pasquale Di Rubbo, Policy Analyst at the European Commission (DG AGRI), Yael Pantzer, Policy Officer at Slow Food.
Moreover, ONFARM partners started to collect case studies: examples from all over Europe of farmers already implementing on-farm processing and direct selling. Check below for a spoiler!
